Anastasia Albanese-O’Neill. Ph.D., APRN/CPNP-PC, CDCES, transitioned to a career in diabetes care, education, and research in 2008. She currently serves as associate vice president, T1D education and clinical implementation at JDRF International. Albanese-O’Neill formerly served as director of diabetes education and clinic operations in the department of pediatrics at the University of Florida, where she maintained an active research portfolio and clinical practice. Her research on diabetes education, quality improvement, and diabetes technology has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Diabetes Care, Pediatric Diabetes, The Lancet, and Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics. She is the volunteer founder of a Florida based diabetes education non-profit, Diabetes Toolkit. Albanese-O’Neill has been a passionate diabetes advocate since 2002, and in this capacity has appeared at congressional hearings, the White House, and in the Florida legislature. Prior to working in diabetes care, Albanese-O’Neill was a marketing executive for Southwest Airlines. She was chosen as the 2023 Diabetes Care and Education Specialist of the Year by the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists. She plans to retire the moment a cure for type 1 diabetes is discovered, but not a moment sooner.
