SOCAT 2022 CONFERENCE HEAD LINERS . . .
MELINDA BALDWIN, PhD, LCSW
Dr. Melinda Baldwin, PhD, LCSW is the Director of the Division of Prevention, Traumatic Stress, & Special Programs and Acting Chief of the Child, Adolescent, & Family Branch in the Center for Mental Health Services at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Dr. Baldwin is a subject matter expert in behavioral health, trauma, program evaluation (grounded in implementation science), and its intersection with child welfare/maltreatment and mental health practice and policy. Before coming to SAMHSA, she worked at the Children’s Bureau leading their work in behavioral health and trauma. While there, she partnered with ASPE, the CDC, and CMS to conduct research on children and youth in congregate care, the intersection of behavioral health care, fetal alcohol syndrome disorder, congregate care, and the impact of substance use on child welfare. She has had extensive field experience, beginning on the front lines as a social worker with families in the child welfare system. She was the Director of Child Welfare at Hephzibah Children’s Association managing the continuum of services to children and their families from community prevention work to therapeutic residential services for children. Dr. Baldwin has a PhD in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago, an MSW from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is licensed as a clinical social worker in both Illinois and in the District of Columbia.
KEVIN DYSON, PhD
Kevin Dyson, the former number 16th pick of the 1998 NFL Draft by then the Tennessee Oilers (Titans), also played for the Carolina Panthers. Dr. Dyson serves as the Principal at Centennial High School, in Franklin, Tennessee, after recently serving as Grassland Middle School in the same capacity for 2 years.
His name is synonymous with two of the most memorable plays in National Football League history. The 2000 Wild Card Playoff game against the Buffalo Bills and Super Bowl XXXIV versus the St. Louis Rams, dubbed the “Music City Miracle”, and “One Yard Short”, respectfully, are games that have etched Dr. Dyson into National Football League history.
However, it was his time growing up that help mold him into the person and athlete he became to be. After being raised predominately by a single mother, Dr. Dyson, the oldest of four, boasted to his mother that one day he would go into the NBA and buy her a house. His mother did not discourage him from his dream, rather she put more of an emphasis on education and the importance of going to college and getting a degree as opposed to putting all his eggs into the proverbial “professional dream” basket.
Although Dr. Dyson did fulfill his professional sports dream, the impact of his mother’s guidance had a lasting impact, because Dr. Dyson now owns a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Practical Practice and two master’s Degrees from Trevecca Nazarene University, all of which were attained after his playing days were done. In addition to working as a principal, Dr. Dyson also host a Podcast, serves as radio host for his pre- and post-game show for the Tennessee Titans, and avidly speaks to and mentor’s youth in Metro Nashville and surrounding areas about his journey to present day.

The health of an organization directly affects its ability to realize its mission; engage and retain employees; provide quality services and supports; and enhance productivity and outcomes. Research on practices and strategies that support healthy organizational environments have considerable overlap with the philosophies and competencies found within the field of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH), including the role of a secure base. Just as evidence shows the power of secure based attachments in supporting healthy child development, we now understand how secure bases continue to affect our growth and development across the lifespan, even in the workplace. The intention of this presentation is to engage individuals at every level of an organization in understanding the being and doing of secure base leadership and the ripple effect it creates in and beyond the organization.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this session, participants will have:
- A deeper understanding of how applying the early childhood model of secure bases across the lifespan creates conditions for optimal growth and development;
- A greater knowledge of characteristics of Secure Base Leadership in the workplace; and,
- An awareness of the steps to begin applying Secure Base Leadership in practice, leading to healthier children, families, and communities.

MASTER YOUR VIRTUAL EVENT EXPERIENCE WITH THESE PRE-CONFERENCE DETAILS
MASTER YOUR VIRTUAL EVENT EXPERIENCE WITH THESE PRE-CONFERENCE DETAILS . . .
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES . . . Most everyone experiences little or no technical difficulties accessing the conference, but here are a few things that we have noted with virtual conferencing that is beyond our control but with a little pre-planning, should make for a most pleasant conferencing experience. Please be sure you are using CHROME or FIREFOX as your internet browser as these are the most compatible with the HopIn Virtual Platform.
We’ve heard of some attendees experiencing difficulties logging in through their work electronic devices which is typically due to firewalls and security measures.
Similarly, internet service can be slower in some areas which can create lags and the inability to access the platform without interruptions. Please plan accordingly to assure an alternate location, if necessary, is selected for viewing the conference.
HANDOUTS . . . All speaker handouts received thus far are accessible for printing or downloading to your electronic devices. Go to the schedule listing above and handout references are provided immediately below each session description.
EVALUATIONS AND REQUEST FOR DOCUMENTATION OF CEs EARNED . . . Please complete evaluations for each of the sessions you attend so that we can view your feedback about how much you enjoyed the conference and how we can improve for future events. Your feedback is very valuable to us. We read every form and take the information into consideration as we develop future training and professional development opportunities.
The evaluation forms are very simple to complete and are compiled into one online document that includes the request for documentation of contact/clock hours earned during the event. The comprehensive online form takes only a few moments to complete and can be accessed above as soon as the link becomes available - typically a week or two prior to the event.
CHATS AND INTERACTIVE DIALOG. . . Sessions are pre-recorded for presentation on the day of the event; thus, there is no direct or verbal dialog with speaker presentations as they are airing. Some speakers have indicated they may be available in the chat box during the airing of their respective sessions to entertain written Q&A and respond to written comments during the session.
Once you are in the STAGE or SESSIONS areas, you will see the CHAT BOX to the right of the viewing screen. View important messaging from the Conference Host (TDMHAS) and Partner (TAMHO) and type in your comments and questions for speakers/panelists and other attendees.
The entry, or reception area, has a chat feature and you are welcome to submit comments and information there, but the more interactive areas have typically been found to be the CHAT areas to the right of the STAGE and SESSIONS areas.
NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES . . . The Networking segment on Hopin is pure engagement and is similar to one-on-one meetings on a FaceTime call. This segment is designed to recreate the “coffee-in-the-lobby” conversations or watercooler chats that are important at an in-person event. The Networking area automates the discovery of new connections. When an attendee participates in the Networking, they are matched with a random attendee and meet for as little as 30 seconds or up to 10 minutes. Attendees can click the Connect button during a call to exchange contact information and after the event the newly made contacts will appear at the Connections page of their individual Profile. Networking Access is available by clicking the NETWORKING icon to the left of the event screen.
Direct messages — anyone can send messages to an individual within Hopin via DMs in the People tab. To send a DM, find the person you wish to chat with in the People tab, click their profile photo, and send a direct message to them.
We hope that providing these details in advance of the event is beneficial in preparing you for the event. Similar details will also be available during the event in the informational area below the STAGE and SESSION viewing screens.
